Three cheers for wall sits!

On Monday, cornerback Brandon Carr took the lead for the Cowboys for the fourth straight year in kicking off the team’s PLAY 60 Challenge Powered by Reliant.

At Sparks Elementary in Frisco, Texas, Carr told a gym full of fifth graders that he didn’t need motivation for getting active and eating right. The reward for taking care of your body is simple.

“Think if [the Cowboys] were all to eat a box of pizza an hour before game time,” Carr said. “We’d be so sluggish – you’d probably turn off the television, right?”

Carr’s go-to meal instead?

“Baked chicken,” he answered one inquiring student. “It’s the only thing I know how to cook, really, and I do it well.”

(He’s given that answer for four straight years. Guess once you find a winning dish, you stick with it.)

The PLAY 60 Challenge is a program by the NFL and the American Heart Association, which “challenges” kids to get 60 minutes of playtime in each day and log that activity in their Challenge Student Planner. Teachers help at school by taking small physical activity breaks in the classroom.

To kick off the Challenge, Carr broke students out into groups and rotated them between stations like wall sits, lunges, jump rope and tricep dips. The event culminated with a plank-off between Carr and Sparks’ P.E. teacher and vice principal.

Clearly, Carr had the largest gang of supporters.
